Lama Gangchen Tulku Rinpoche was born on 7th July 1941 at Dakshu, a tiny village 40 kilometres away from Shigatse, in the Tsang region of Western Tibet. At the age of 5, he was recognised as the reincarnation of the great healing Lama Kacen Sapenla, entered the monastery of Gangchen Chopeling and started an in-depth study of Tantras and secret healing methods under the guidance of His Holiness Trijang Dorje Chang and the Venerable Zong Rinpoche. At the age of twelve he received from the monastery of Tashi Lumpo, in Tibet, the title of “kacen”, which, as a rule, is only awarded after some twenty years of studies. Until the age of eighteen, he studied medicine, astrology, meditation and philosophy in the most important monastic universities in Tibet: Sera Me and Tashi Lhunpo. In the monastery of Neytsong his teachers were the most important tantric Lamas of Tibet. In 1963 he went into exile in India, where, in the next following seven years, he continued his studies at Varanasi Sanskrit University (Bishwa Vhidhyiana) at Benares.In 1970 he gained a diploma as Gheshe rigram (Ph. D.) from the Monastic University of Sera, in southern India. Then, he acted as healing Lama in Nepal, India and Sikkim, in these years he devoted himself to the healing of the sick and saved the life of many persons.
